Today was pretty great for a Monday. Everything is easier to do when the weather is warm and bright.
Well, cool. It's already nearing the end of March...curious how time moves so swiftly. The flowers have
been in bloom for weeks and our fig tree is already showing baby fruits!

I've always thought of my Grandparents house as unusually special. In the good ole days, our family
took roadtrips once a year or so to see our kinfolk in the South. It was always quite a magickal
experience...coming from Pennsylvania, 1,200 miles away...it felt like another world...especially as a kid. My Grandma passed on when I was in 7th grade (she was amazing...very crafty, could play the shit out of a piano, was Head Nurse at a large hospital and had 4 kids). She was a true Southern lady and could cook like a boss. Anywho, life happened for awhile...and funny that nearly 15 years later I find myself cooking in her kitchen, admiring her flowers, sweeping her floors...living in her home. Silly how life turns out........it's been about 3 years and I'm still not quite sure how I ended up in Alabama......but I know I like it.
The kitties are loving their new kitty perch. They got a kitty door too! They have a lot more freedom to
go outside now and they looove it so very much. ^,,^

On St. Patrick's Day we celebrated the paternal side of our family (the "Black Irish" side). Note: In the southern United States, mixed-race descendants of European and Native Americans, or European and African Americans, sometimes called themselves "black Irish" or "black Dutch" to explain their coloring and conceal their minority heritage. This was particularly the case during the Indian Removal era of the 1830s. The forced removal of the Cherokee and other nations from native land to the Indian Territory, accompanied by laws that forbade Natives to own land, and denied them the right to vote, led Native Americans and people of mixed race to hide their ethnic heritage. This spurious identification as "black Irish" or "black Dutch" has persisted among the descendants of these people for over 100 years (wikipedia.org). SO yeah...my brother really got into the spirit and busted out a delicious stew made with beer and red wine. Super yummy. The house smelled good all day.
