A warm (and simple) way to spice up your day.

My Mom has handed down to me many useful tricks...especially in the kitchen. This is one of my favorite ways to cozy up the house, especially during chilly days like today.

Instead of tossing your leftover orange and lemon rinds into the trash (or compost pile)...get the most out of them first by creating a wonderful aromatherapy session in your kitchen. It'll fill your entire home with warmth and good energy.

What you'll need:
  • rinds from (2) leftover oranges, (3) lemons or any other citrus fruits of your choice
  • 1 TB cinnamon
  • 1 tsp clove
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 TB fresh grated ginger (optional)
  • fresh or dried sage (optional)
(Feel free to play around with your own herb and spice combinations!)

What to do:
  • Add all ingredients to a sauce pan and add enough water to cover (about 3-4 cups)
  • Simmer on low heat until water level is reduced by 1/3 or so
  • Add more water if desired and continue simmer on low heat (repeat until you've had enough or until the rinds fall apart, whichever happens first)
  • This process offers at least 2-3 hours of yummy smells :)

Aromatherapy benefits:

Orange- helps provide emotional balance, uplifts mood, can lower blood pressure, breaks up congested lymph and assists in fighting colds and flu
Lemon- relaxes brainwaves, improves concentration, reduces blood pressure, revitalizes
Cinnamon- helps relieve headaches, migraines, depression and anxiety
Clove- reduces drowsiness, irritability, relieves headaches
Nutmeg- calming, helps focus, supports a tired nervous system and adrenal-fatigue
Ginger- helps open congested sinuses, calms morning sickness and nausea, energizes
Sage- clears mucous, calming, relaxes nerves, lowers blood pressure, aids in sleep + relaxation

Nature works wonders. Hope you all have a bright and happy day. <3>
